Kowloon East Social Service Centre (KESSC) (now known as Kowloon East Integrated Service Centre for Social Rehabilitation & Community Support – Chuk Yuen Revival Hub) KESSC intervened cases through evidence-based approach and provided multifarious services to meet the needs of our service users. “Keep Company” peer support project service targeted on serving active drug users and has been established to intervene the high risk population through the engagement of peer supporters and volunteers. This year, over 200 drug users were being outreached in this project. Peer support services also arranged by social workers to provide hotline service, home visits, minor household maintenance work, and letter contacts, which helped on strengthening the commitment of service users to our services. Besides, “Old Buddies” activity led by social workers and peer supporters was started to provide regular and prosocial mutual help group to active drug users. The participation of service users was emphasized in the group, which the participants evaluated that the activity helped them to reduce drug usage. This year, with the support of donors, a gathering banquet was held to give warmth to the drug users in the winter so that the service users in “Old Buddies” can get along and be supported by each other in the cold and hard times. “Old Buddies” activity has accumulated over 50 members, and it was recorded that over 20 members were regular participants. In the coming year, the “Old Buddies” representatives will be trained to show care and support to other drug users. KESSC also trialed “Mama Group” this year to support the female service users with child caring issues. They supported each other and established prosocial platform to share their child care resources and ups and downs through activities. At the same time, social workers applied elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in this group to enhance their emotion adjustment ability and the skills of child care. In addition, KESSC also held a series of “Warm-hearted” activities. These activities ranging from providing quality counter service such as DIY warm-hearted drinks, sweet soup and handmade products under a collaborative effort amongst Club House members and community volunteers were produced to serve the service users. The feedback of activities was positive and the beneficiaries of each activity exceed 20–30 users. “Mama group” activity to celebrate children’s birthdays. The peer supporter volunteer thought the “Old Buddies” activity was meaningful. | 40 |
