SideBySide is honoured to join hands with the Correctional Services Department, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, and The University of Hong Kong to hold the kick-off ceremony of the “Jockey Club Project ReBond” at Lo Wu Correctional Institution on 23 October 2025.

This project is  a collaborative initiative created and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, co-created by the Correctional Services Department and SideBySide, with The University of Hong Kong serving as the knowledge partner. The project aims to provide a one-stop integrated rehabilitation and reintegration support service for persons in desistance with a serving sentence of less than one year, covering the period from incarceration to post-release.

Grounded in the principles of Desistance Theory, the project offers seamless, multi-faceted support bridging institutional and community settings. It supports persons in desistance in setting personal goals, gradually rebuilding relationships with others throughout their rehabilitation and reintegration journey, strengthening positive values, and—under the guidance of professional social workers and community support—reconstructing a positive self-identity centred on law-abiding behaviour and social inclusion.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bringing together different sectors of society to strengthen connections from correctional institutions to the community—ensuring that every individual who is willing to change can receive companionship and support in embarking on a new chapter of life.

Special thanks to:

  • Mr Ng Chiu-kok, Acting Commissioner of Correctional Services
  • Ms Winnie Ying, Head of Charities (Education & Youth Cluster), The Hong Kong Jockey Club
  • Mr Justice Poon Siu-tung, Chairperson of the Executive Committee, SideBySide
  • Professor Eric Fong, Acting Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Hong Kong

as well as all collaborating partners and frontline colleagues for their participation and dedication.

Let us come together to cheer on the Jockey Club Project ReBond, join hands to promote “Everyone deserves to belong”, and help persons in desistance embark on a hopeful new path.
