“Along Your Way”: Mental Health Support Program for Family Members of Remanded, Incarcerated individuals, and Ex-offenders

The concept of “CARE” is applied for supporting and enhancing the ability of mental stress management of designated service targets, arousing public attention to the service recipients, as well as building an inclusive society.

• Care: Strengthening the supports service targets, paying attention to their psychological and emotional needs arising from changes in family structure due to involving in judicial procedure, and providing them with methods of emotional management and stress coping.
• Appreciate: Promoting appreciation and recognition to the changing environment, encouraging them to transform negative emotions by organizing the experiences of family members during the judicial procedure, ultimately enhancing their resilience.
• Relationship: Establishing a one-to-two mutual support group (consist of one social worker, one volunteer and one service user) and providing a holistic and personalized support for service users.
• Education: Raising awareness and promoting understanding to the service user and constructing a harmonious atmosphere in the community.

Arrested/ remanded / incarcerated / and formerly incarcerated individuals and their families

For arrested/ remanded/ incarcerated/formerly incarcerated individuals

• To provide assistance with approved hand-in materials
• To provide assistance to express gratitude to their family members

For family members

• To provide fundamental training activities on topics including emotional/stress management, information on institutions, and enhancing communication among family members.
• To provide subsidies and assistance in managing approved hand-in materials
• To provide transportation services to visit to prisons
• To provide “support groups” organized by social workers and volunteers

To provide community mass programs

For volunteers

• To provide training workshops to enhance their understanding to the needs of service targets
• To form a support group with matching

General public

• To provide educational workshops to enhance acceptance and understanding of the needs of service targets

Free of charge

Service users could initiate to obtain the service through direct application or referral made by other organizations.

Service can be terminated upon worker's professional judgment and mutual agreement made with the service users. Service users may terminate service voluntarily at any juncture of the service process.
