The Mock Trial Justice Education Project began in 2007 and has been held continuously for eighteen years, enjoying strong support from the academic community. The rule of law is a core value of Hong Kong, and young people are the future leaders of society. They need to understand social systems and recognise their civic responsibilities. Enhancing their knowledge and appreciation of concepts such as the rule of law, justice, and civic responsibility is therefore especially important for strengthening sound values.
Through mock trial competitions and various educational activities, the project enables young people to deepen their understanding of the legal system in an interactive and engaging way. Participants experience, learn, and reflect on civic responsibility and the spirit of the rule of law. In the mock trial competitions, participants take on different roles—including prosecution and defence lawyers, defendants, and witnesses—engaging in the entire legal process. They explore criminal behaviour and related social issues from multiple perspectives, further reflecting on the relationship between the rule of law, justice, individuals, and society.
