Lunar House

With re-development completed in 2025, Lunar House (formerly Shau Kei Wan House) provides transitional residential care service of 42 places for male persons in recovery (PIRs) from mental illness at Jockey Club Key House. It is also a purpose-built halfway house which accepts PIRs with a history of criminal violence or assessed disposition to violence. 

 

We provide professional service to PIRs through a team composed of registered social workers, psychiatric nurses and supporting staff. 

Mission

To provide transitional residential care service to PIRs, in order to strengthen their self-care and social adjustment skills and thus to integrate back into the society and develop their lives in recovery.

Objectives

Our halfway house practiced the Advantaged Thinking and Recovery Model, which encouraged PIRs to develop their strengths and potential, as well as to give a sense of capability and bring hope to enrich their lives.

 

Besides, we are devoted to ensure PIRs in obtaining community resources for their recovery and well-being by establishing and maintaining supportive community relationship in the society.

Service Target

  • Male persons in recovery (aged 15 or above)
  • Assessed by psychiatry to be mentally stable and fit for group living
  • Physically healthy, capable of self-care and free from infectious disease, alcohol or drug addiction 
  • Motivated for open employment and with vocational ability

Scope of Services

  • Independent living skills training and community integration activities
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Training for medical follow-up and medication adherence
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Vocational counseling and referral
  • Interest class and recovery activities
  • Social skills training

Fee

According to fee policy of the Social Welfare Department, currently $1,220 per month.

Service Hour

24 hours per day

Application and Withdrawal

Referrals can be made by social workers and professionals from rehabilitation service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the SWD.

 

All applications are handled by our admission panel. Applicants will be invited for a pre‑admission assessment and successful candidates will be arranged for admission to receive the hostel service. 

 

Participation is voluntary while service users may withdraw at any time and the halfway house may also end the service under professional judgement and mutual agreement.
