Children's Journey of Holistic Harmony: Advancing Social-Emotional Learning Competencies

From August 2023 to July 2025, SideBySide co-organized the “Integrating Social and Emotional Learning into School Project” (ISEL) with Save the Children Hong Kong, sponsored by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong. The ISEL was dedicated to systematically integrating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into regular classrooms. Over two years, the ISEL provided a total of 24 SEL sessions for Primary 5 and Primary 6 students in two primary schools. It also offered related workshops and training for teachers and parents, as well as a school-wide social-emotional activity week. The program benefited over 360 P5 and P6 students, 120 parents, and trained more than 160 teachers.

To further promote SEL in more primary schools, SideBySide has launched a new phase of the programme called the “Children's Journey of Holistic Harmony: Advancing Social-Emotional Learning Competencies” (ASEL), starting in September 2025. This program aims to help Primary 5 and Primary 6 students learn five transferable social-emotional skills from the CASEL framework: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, thereby enhancing their social-emotional competencies. Also, SideBySide has incorporated themes related to crime prevention, such as online fact-checking and anti-bullying, into the curriculum to help children establish healthy social-emotional skills and crime prevention awareness from an early age.

This helps students entering adolescence to understand and manage their social and emotional needs and learn how to express them.
