In order to encourage disadvantaged youths to connect with the community and expand their horizons, SRACP launched the “YouChallenge” mobile app which is a brand-new service model in social welfare sector, supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Through the mobile app, we can actively connect with disadvantaged youths, encourage them to accomplish different tasks in real life, and by earning points challengers are able to redeem desirable rewards and opportunities to excel themselves and develop positive attitude gradually.   “Hong Kong Economic Times " interviewed two challengers, rehabilitator Kim and disadvantaged youth Tze Ho, together with Ms. Gigi Chan, the project supervisor and Mr. Edison Lau, Research & Development supervisor. During the interview, our colleagues shared how to make good use of technology to connect with youths and assist them in establishing life goal, as well as developing a career based on their interests.

Milan is a Nepalese who born in Hong Kong. Since he was a drug addict, he fully understands the struggle and pain of non-Chinese drug addicts. He also understands the challenges faced by ethnic minorities living in Hong Kong. Therefore, after recovering, he has joined SRACP as a peer supporter for more than 10 years and help ethnic minorities with drug problems. He hopes to help them break the cycle and restore a healthy life.

SRACP Launched Mobile App to Connect Young People

Inaugurated in 2018 with the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, SRACP launched the “YouChallenge” mobile app which is a brand-new service model in social welfare sector. Through the mobile app, we can actively connect with youths, encourage disadvantaged youths to accomplish different tasks in real life, and by earning points they are able to redeem desirable rewards and opportunities to excel themselves, so as to develop positive attitude.   So far, more than 1,000 people have registered to use the mobile app, and more than 600 challenge tasks have been created.   "Hong Kong 01" interviewed one of the challengers, K (alias), and Ms. Gigi Chan, the project supervisor. During the interview, K shared how to develop her own advantages from the challenges and overcome the low tide of life, as well as to rebuild a positive identity and self-image.

The "7th SRACP Benevolent Employers Awards Presentation Ceremony" was first broadcasted on Facebook on October 16, 2020 (Friday) with a new variety show format, themed as "Walk with you all the time. Explore infinite possibilities". A total of 37 companies were nominated and 20 “New”, “Outstanding” and “Excellent” employers were selected. The "RunTogether Challenge" was launched to promote the spirit of peers, so as to call for more employers to join.   During the interview, Ming-chu and Ah-Keung thanked their employers for not only providing stable jobs and income, but also allowing them to re-accept themselves, improve their interpersonal relationships, and regain their self-esteem.

Ex-offender Reintegration Overcoming the Past

How does it feel to return home town after imprisoned abroad several years? Our service user, Ryan, was being interviewed by RTHK radio programme to share his 7- year life in Japanese prison. When he returned to Hong Kong, our social workers helped him gradually integrate into the society and regain his goals. He encourages other ex-offenders, “It doesn't matter if you went in the wrong direction once, the most important thing is to find the right way now."

Overcome Adversity with Fitness Embarking on Entrepreneurship

We always encourage ex-offenders to look for self-enhancement in adversity. Rizzy, our service user, has overcome the low tide of life through fitness exercises in prison, and regained his goals. He hopes to help and guide other ex-offenders to be fitness coaches, equipped themselves with skills. Now, he is planning to apply for funds to establish a coaching team composed of ex-offenders to promote fitness exercise in the community.   Rizzy, together with our Hong Kong Revival Hub Supervisor Mr. Tom Tse and Social Worker of “Hang Seng Youth Career Planning Scheme” Ms. Bernice Lam, were being interviewed by Ming Pao to share the challenges faced by ex-offenders in their rehabilitation and how SRACP helped them reintegrate into the community.

Love Delivery Under COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, 24-hour chained fast food restaurants adjusted their operation hour, which caused the disadvantaged group- homeless people losing the shelter at night, they worried about the health and personal safety at the same time.   Funded by Jockey Club “COVID-19 Emergency Fund”, SRACP launched a short-term project “Love Delivery under COVID-19” at two service areas in Kowloon West in May by driving two 60-seat coaches to designated spots, outreaching teams approaching homeless / street sleepers to provide timely care and support to them in time of hardship.   Ms. Anthea LEE Shuk Wai, Chief Executive together with Mr. Brian Wong, SRACP Supervisor and Kevin, project assistant were being interviewed by Topick. In addition to introducing details and concepts of the project, they also shared their memorable experience during outreach.

Hong Kong Social Innovators

SRACP is an intermediary of the SIE Fund responsible for designing and administering the innovative programme "BEHub", which aims to inspire and nurture the disadvantaged groups and the public to become social innovators to address the challenges relating to poverty and social exclusion faced by the disadvantaged groups, especially rehabilitated persons, current or ex-drug abusers, ethnic minorities, youth-at-risks, people with disabilities or persons in recovery, through innovative solutions.   Ms. Anthea Lee Shuk-wai, Chief Executive of SRACP was being interviewed by SIE Fund, pointed out disadvantaged groups are unpolished gemstones which can glow and shine with a little assistance. By providing training, mentorship and a resourceful network, SRACP assists the disadvantaged groups to develop creative thinking and to design and deploy innovative solutions to tackle social problems, in order to encourage the positive development of their personality growth.

“So Uk 2.0” – A Comfortable and Meaningful Home

The 4th So Uk of SRACP was officially launched in February this year which is located at Staunton Street, Sheung Wan. The project aims to promote multi-generational co-living environment and the spirit of mutual help at neighbourhood level in the community. It provides six units with 24 spaces in total, for deprived singletons including ex-offenders, persons in recovery and out-of-home youths from different age groups and background, in which cross generation co-living model is promoted.   Ms. Anthea LEE Shuk Wai, Chief Executive and two tenants Wendy and Uncle Bill were being interviewed by the "HKCSS Channel". In addition to introducing details and concepts of the project, the two tenants also share their daily lives in So Uk 2.0.
